3rd Annual Course – Diagnostic Immunohistochemistry for Pathologists

To provide updated diagnostically relevant information on immunohistochemical markers, useful antibodies, optimal clones and antibody panels applicable in diagnostic pathology as well as highlight the possible laboratory and diagnostic pitfalls. The course will consist of series of lectures focusing on broad fields in diagnostic pathology and selected relevant topics, as well as case demonstrations based on virtual slides. Given recommendations will be based on the results of the relevant epitope assessments conducted in NordiQC (www.nordiqc.org) as well as other EQA challenges and literature focused on protocol optimization and standardization.
The course has been granted 15 European CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).

Speakers:
Ben Davidson (Norway)
Professor at Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo and Attending Pathologist, Department of Pathology, Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo University Hospital, Oslo, Norway. He is main interests are cytopathology and gynecological pathology. His research is focused on cancer diagnosis, metastasis, cell survival, and studies of prognosis and chemoresistance mainly in cancers involving the serosal cavities like ovarian carcinoma, breast carcinoma and malignant mesothelioma. He is an author of 280 peer-reviewed scientific publications and several book chapters, as well as the editor of a book on serous effusions. He is also a reviewer and a member of editorial boards for leading international peer-reviewed journals, as well as invited speaker on international and national meetings and conferences.
Jan Klos (Norway)
Senior Consultant and a Head of the Immunohistochemistry Section in the Department of Pathology, Stavanger University Hospital, Norway. His professional focus is on diagnostic pathology, particularly hematopathology, pathology of the breast and cytopathology. He has been actively involved in teaching immunohistochemistry since 2000 as co-organizer of national and international meetings and courses as well as invited lecturer. Since 2009 he is a member of the core group and assessor in NordiQC organization. He is a co-author of more than 30 publications in the field of pathology.
Ole Nielsen (Denmark)
Senior histotechnologist and project coordinator at the Department of Pathology, Odense University Hospital, Denmark. He has worked within the area of immunohistochemistry for more than 25 years. He has been actively involved in teaching immunohistochemistry since 1990 as an invited lecturer on various international and national courses and meetings. He is a co-author of more than 30 publications in the field of immunohistochemistry and since 2007 member of the NordiQC IHC Assessor Group.
Janusz Rys (Poland)
Head of the Department of Tumor Pathology, Centre of Oncology – Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Institute of Oncology, Krakow Branch, a graduate from the Faculty of Medicine, Academy of Medicine in Krakow (1984), pathology board specialist (1991). His interests are focused on diagnostic pathology, especially of the breast and soft tissues, as well as research with application of immunohistochemical and molecular markers in growth and progression of tumors. He is a head and chief executive of several research grants awarded by the Committee of Scientific Research. He is the author and co-author of over 130 publications in medical journals and chapters in four pathology books, as well as the Editor-in-Chief of a quarterly Polish Journal of Pathology. Member of the Polish Society of Pathologists and the European Society of Pathology.
Tibor Tot (Sweden)
is an associate professor of pathology at the University of Uppsala, head of Laboratory Medicine Dalarna and head of the Department of Pathology and Clinical Cytology at the Central Hospital in Falun, Sweden. He is breast cancer expert of the Swedish Board of Welfare and regular course director of its breast pathology program. The last years he is also one of the faculty members in the breast pathology arm of the European School of Pathology, invited faculty member in European School of Radiology and one of the scientific directors in the European School of Oncology Certificate of Competence in Breast Cancer program. In addition to more than 80 journal articles and 20 book chapters, he published the book Practical Breast Pathology, an official teaching material of the European School of Pathology. He is also co-author of the Thieme Series on Art and Science of Mammography. With radiological – pathological correlation of breast diseases as the main field of interest, he is repeatedly invited lecturer at the European Congress of Radiology, European Congress of Pathology, and other international and national congresses, symposia, and teaching courses all over the world. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Virchows Archiv, Vojnosanitetski pregled (Belgrade), the Journal of OncoPathology, and the Journal of Solid Tumors, one of the editors of Case Reports in Pathology, member of the European Working Groups for Breast Cancer Screening Pathology and the past chair of the Working Group for Breast Pathology of the European Society of Pathology.
Emina Emilia Torlakovic (Canada) Graduated at the University of Zagreb Medical School and obtained her Ph.D. at the University of Oslo Medical School. She is a professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and practices as a staff hematopathologist and medical director of Immunohistochemistry in the Department of Laboratory Hematology at the University Health Network. She is a co-founding member of the NordiQC and also co-founded CIQC, which she is currently co-directing. She is the Chair of the National Standards Committee for High Complexity Testing of the Canadian Association of Pathologists and works for International Council for Standardization in Hematology on development of standards for bone marrow IHC. Currently she is leading projects related to global standardization of controls in diagnostic IHC as well as development of new concepts related to validation of IHC biomarkers. She is also known for a discovery of a sessile serrated adenoma and her classification of serrated polyps of the colon is recently adopted for WHO classification. She is an author over 90 peer reviewed manuscripts and a book on Bone Marrow Immunohistochemistry. She has lectured widely nationally and internationally on immunohistochemistry, quality assurance, and hematopathology.
Mogens Vyberg (Denmark)
Professor of Clinical Pathology at Aalborg University, Senior Consultant and the Head of the Laboratory of Immunohistochemistry at the Institute of Pathology, Aalborg University Hospital, Denmark. His main research fields and expertise are immunohistochemistry and gastrointestinal, liver and brain pathology. He is author and co-author of more than 80 scientific papers and several book chapters in these fields as well as the text book Compendium of Applied Immunohistochemistry (Danish; English version scheduled for 2016). He is also a co-founder and scheme director of the Nordic Immunohistochemical Quality Control (NordiQC) with Aalborg Hospital as its domicile which is currently has more than 700 participating pathology laboratories from more than 40 countries.

Cancellation policy: Before 31st of August 2016: Full refund minus 10% deduction for administrative costs. After 31st of August 2016 no refunds will be made, but the place can be transferred to another participant.
